Our story

The brand was established by Belinda after she moved to Australia in 2007 and struggled to find suitable products for her relaxed hair. Despite trying various local products, her hair remained dry, thinning, and excessively shedding. In 2015, due to the damage, she made the decision to do a big chop and transition to natural hair. This marked the beginning of her deep dive into researching natural hair care methods and creating her own DIY formulations. Over the years, she experimented with numerous oils, butters, and herbs, eventually developing a formulation that completely transformed her hair. Belinda, who naturally has low-density fine hair, attributes Ayurveda for thickening and promoting hair growth, noting a significant reduction in shedding.

Background

In addition to being passionate about natural hair care, Belinda is a dedicated, highly experienced registered nurse with a comprehensive background in clinical assessments and maintaining skin health. Drawing on this expertise, she formulated a product rich in humectants to ensure optimal hydration of the scalp, effectively preventing dandruff. Believing in the principle that healthy hair growth begins with proper scalp care, she emphasizes that the scalp, like other parts of our skin, requires dedicated attention. Our products have been thoroughly tested and embraced by women of various age groups and hair textures.

Mission and Vision

At Planted Coils, our vision is to empower Black women to embrace and celebrate their natural hair. Many Black women have not been taught from a young age how to care for their natural hair, leading them to often resort to braids due to challenges in managing their curly hair. Our mission at Planted Coils is to address this gap by offering highly moisturizing hair products that leave hair soft and manageable.

Additionally, we provide personalized natural hair care education sessions for individuals aged 10 and above. This service covers essential techniques such as hot oil treatments, shampooing, deep conditioning, moisturizing, trimming ends, and various styling options including blow drying, twist-outs, and wash-and-gos. We believe that by imparting this knowledge, we empower individuals to confidently care for and enjoy their natural hair.
